Help Support The Dodd-Feingold Amendment
This week the Senate was scheduled to vote on FISA reform legislation that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies. Senators Dodd and Feingold have been fighting to stop retroactive immunity, yesterday courtesy of Firedoglake I was provided with a tool that enabled me to call the Senators on a list that recorded my calls and where I could make a notation about the Senators position on the bill. I called my senators first Hillary Rodham Clinton, and I was told she didn't have a position yet! I encouraged the aid to write down my request that she vote in favor of the Dodd-Feingold- Leahy, Amendment H.R. 6304, with NO to cloture, and no on the final bill. I then called Senator Schumer who was in favor of Dodd-Feingold- Leahy, Amendment H.R. 6304. I continued calling starting with the Senators I like the least, and called ten Senators, until Senator Kyl, closed the session on the floor as they were all going off to Jesse Helms funeral!
Voting will come to the floor again on Tuesday --- This is your chance to call your Senator's office and register your extreme concern about this bill and ask them to vote in favor of the Dodd-Feingold- Leahy, Amendment H.R. 6304. It is our only opportunity to find out what they have been doing over the past six years and believe me they have used that information to their best advantage --- a little blackmail with your coffee my friend!
For the past six years, the Bush Administration and the communication companies have been illegally spying on Americans’ phone calls, text messages and e-mails. They have been doing this in direct violation of the Constitution’s 4th Amendment and a federal statute, which is – FISA. Both laws emphatically forbid such surveillance unless the government first obtains a warrant from the FISA court. (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978)
